Profession: Goldsmith and Financier Biography: Johann Fust played a key role in the development of the printing press. Fust was born into a prominent family in Mainz around 1400, eventually taking up work as a goldsmith and financier. He became involved in printing by his financial support of Johann Gutenberg, lending money to Gutenberg to develop the printing press. In 1455, however, the pair had a still mysterious disagreement and Fust sued Gutenberg to recover his investment. Read More...
