Director Mahesh Pailoor has released the first trailer for his indie drama “Paper Flowers,” based on the story of 22-year-old Shalin Shah, whose battle with cancer garnered viral attention in 2015. The film will premiere June 20 at the Dances With Films Festival at the TLC Chinese Theater in Hollywood with two additional screenings taking place on June 26 at the London Indian Film Festival and the Birmingham Indian Film Festival.
The film stars Kapil Talwalkar (“Night Court”), Olivia Liang (“Kung Fu”), Karan Soni (“Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,” “Deadpool”), and Tom Everett Scott (“That Thing You Do”). Asit Vyas serves as producer.

The Art Directors Guild Sets Date for 29th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards
The Art Directors Guild’s 29th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards will take place Feb. 15, 2025, at the InterContinental in Downtown Los Angeles. The ADG Awards celebrate the creative work of their guild members in television, music videos, commercials and feature films.
“Once again it is our honor to celebrate the achievements of ADG Guild members from all four crafts at the 29th Annual ADG Excellence in Production Design Awards,” said incoming ADG president Dina Lipton, ADG Awards Producers Michael Allen Glover and Megan Elizabeth Bell in a joint statement. “We’re thrilled to see what this year’s projects have in store.”

Women in Animation World Summit Lineup Announced at Annecy
Women in Animation (WIA) has revealed its lineup for this year’s WIA World Summit at the Annecy International Animation Festival. The eighth annual WIA World Summit takes place June 10 at the Impérial Palace Hotel at the Salle de l’Europe featuring panels and focused conversations spotlighting key thought leaders filmmakers and executives discussing equity and justice for people of all genders, gender identities and presentations.

Animation continues to engage audiences and inspire creators worldwide despite significant changes happening behind the scenes. Los Angeles Film Orchestra to Perform at Music Center For Bob Peak Concert
The Los Angeles Film Orchestra will perform at The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall June 14 as a part of the concert Pictures at an Exhibition: The Paintings of Bob Peak. The orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Leonard Slatkin, will perform music from classic films accompanied by Bob Peak’s original artwork including “West Side Story,” “Superman: The Movie,” “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” “Apocalypse Now,” “Silverado,” “My Fair Lady” and “Camelot.”
The concert’s second half features new music from composers inspired by Bob Peak’s art including Michael Abels, Bill Conti, Mychael Danna, Ihab Darwish, Maria Newman,and Marc Shaiman. Peak was an American illustrator who created iconic movie posters from the aforementioned films as well as crafted paintings Anwar Sadat, Mother Teresa and Marlon Brando that are in the Smithsonian Institution’s permanent collection. Peak is inducted into the Society of Illustrators’ Hall of Fame
The event is co-produced by Robert Townson Productions and the Abu Dhabi Festival.
Visual Effects Society New York Section Announces 10th VES NY Empire Award Recipients
The New York Section of the Visual Effects Society, the industry’s professional global honorary society, announced the forthcoming recipients of its 10th Annual VES NY Awards. Vico Sharabani, director, VFX supervisor and founder of The-Artery, will receive the VES NY Empire Award. Dr. Russ Andersson, creator and developer of Boris FX SynthEyes, will be honored with the VES NY Empire Technology Award.
The awards celebration is June 27 at 230 Fifth (Rooftop Bar) in Manhattan.
The VES NY Empire Award recognizes individuals who have made significant and impactful contributions to visual effects artistry in film, animation, television, commercials, video games, and special venues throughout the greater New York area. The VES NY Empire Technology Award honors outstanding achievement in visual effects technological innovation.
The Location Managers Guild International Announces 2024 Board of Directors
The Location Managers Guild International has added Michael Glaser and Michael Wesley to its board of directors.
Both based in Los Angeles, Glaser and Wesley have backgrounds in domestic and international television and feature films. Wesley has worked on productions like “Transformers 2, 3 & 4,” “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” Glaser’s credits include “Interstellar,” “The Hateful Eight” and “The Dark Knight Rises.”
Glaser and Wesley will serve alongside returning members Jimmy Ayoub (N.Y.), Danny Finn (Calif.), Mac Gordon (Ga.), Eric Klein (N.Y.), Angus Ledgerwood (U.K.), Edward Mazurek (Calif.), David McKinney (Calif.), Robin Macdonald (Canada), John Rakich (Canada), Ryan Schaetzle (Ga.), Lisa Scope (Australia), Alison A. Taylor (Calif.) and Scott Trimble (Calif.).

Submissions for MPSE Golden Reel Awards to Open This Fall
Submissions for the 72nd Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards will open Sunday, September 1, 2024. The Golden Reel Awards, hosted by the Motion Picture Sound Editors, honor outstanding achievement in sound editing in categories spanning feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games and student work.
The 72nd MPSE Golden Reel Awards will take place Feb. 23, 2025, at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

SESAC Honors Film and Television Composers and Publishers at Awards
SESAC Performing Rights hosted its Film & Television Composer Awards at the Casa del Mar in Santa Monica June 5, honoring SESAC PRO’s top composers in film, network television, local TV, cable TV and streaming media.
During the ceremony, Danny Lux was honored with the Milestone Award for his work on twenty seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy.” Additionally, Laura Karpman was presented with a plaque to honor her film score for “American Fiction” which culminated in an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score, among many other nominations.
